One Room Challenge Kitchen: Week 5

Week 5 of the One Room Challenge is here! We’re in the homestretch now, and I cannot wait to show you our new kitchen next week!

Hello! Welcome to week 5 of the One Room Challenge, only one more week to go until the big reveal next week! I cannot tell you how good it feels to be almost done with this kitchen. This week’s update post is going to be a shorter one, because honestly, we’re down to the really boring stuff. It’s all about the small finish details now; finishing up caulking, paint touch-ups, and deep cleaning everything. Renovating is a messy business!

Kitchen Island

Above is a quick iPhone pic I snapped of the kitchen island so you could get a bit of a sneak peek of what’s coming. You may remember from the design board that I wanted the island to be a different color from the rest of the cabinets. I settled on a light gray color and I’m so happy with how it turned out. Who knew there were so many choices for gray cabinets out there? Looking back on this renovation, I think the sheer amount of decisions that have had to be made are what has been the hardest part. When you’re spending so much time and money on something, you start to second guess what you’re doing.

What’s Left

This past week we finished up the vertical shiplap backsplash and got all of the floating shelves up. For the first time in 8 months, I completely unpacked all of our dishes. Yay! This week I’m going to concentrate on all of the little finishing details that I mention above, but also have some fun with styling. There are a whole lot of open shelves in this kitchen and I would be lying if I said I knew what I was going to do with all that open space. It’s definitely a good problem to have, and I’m grateful!
