Welcome! Come on in and take a tour of our main living area, aka the family room, fluffed and refreshed for spring and summer!
As a long time blog reader, home and room tours are a favorite of mine. There’s just something about getting invited into someone’s home, getting to see how they live, what they choose to bring into their home, that fascinates me. And by the amount of home tours floating around the internet, I know I’m not the only one. I think we all love to see pieces of other people’s lives (hence our addiction to social media), and if we’re honest, compare our lives to theirs.
The Urge to Compare
I confess, before I started blogging, I smugly thought I was immune to the urge to compare, but I had a kind of rude awakening as I was taking these pictures and editing them. They just didn’t seem “good” enough. Little pieces of doubt started to creep in – maybe my life, my home, just isn’t interesting enough to share.
The more I thought about it though, the more sharing felt like the right thing to do. If we all waited until something was perfect, whether that’s your home, personal appearance, family, job…..the list goes on and on, we aren’t fully living our lives. And I believe we were designed to live full lives, lives where there is freedom in letting go of the comparison.
So that’s my encouragement to myself, and to you. Don’t wait. Show up. Show up with whatever it is in your life that isn’t ready, and own it. I don’t think any of us will look back on our lives and wish we had waited for perfection, but rather that we had embraced imperfection.
And on that note, welcome to our perfectly imperfect family room!
